Winter Top Appeal

Alex Txikon on his way to Base Camp, to reach the summit of K2 in winter and be the first to get it. The mountaineer from Bizkaia and his team are already at Askole, 3.040 meters above sea level, in the heart of the Karakorum.

K2 (8.611m), is the second highest mountain on earth located in the Karakorum section of the Himalayas between Pakistan and China. Considered “the last problem of the Himalayas”, from the 80’s four teams have tried to climb the summit in winter without success.

From Askole, 3.040 meters above sea level, will get into Baltoro, glaciated valley to start a trekking that will take them to Base Camp to begin the challenge. The Base Camp of K2 is situated at 5.000 meters and then they will carry some material to build an advanced Base Camp at 5.300 meters. This year, for the first time, we will build some igloos to sleep more comfortable and have more energy and oxygen to be able to work hard in the mountain. Then, we will build four altitude camps to reach the summit of K2 mountain.
